Betsy

A Very Special Girl

Betsy is 10 years old and a very special girl. She was diagnosed with an optic nerve glioma brain tumour when she was two and a half years old. She underwent 18 months of gruelling chemotherapy and sadly lost her sight and has many other health issues due to the location of the tumour.
But despite all of this, Betsy never lets anything get in her way.

She had her first book “Out of the Woods” published 2 years ago, It’s a modern
fable of positivity. The foreword has been written by Fearne Cotton, who also read the audio version of the book. The paperback version, was launched this year.

The Book is available in Chorleywood Book Shop and you can order it online.

We are so proud of Betsy being chosen to be a face of the 2024 Wear a Hat Day this March for Brain Tumour Research. It is a flagship fundraising campaign to help find a cure for brain tumours.

She was also chosen as Hertfordshire’s Local Hero Award in 2022.

She writes songs, stories and is wise beyond her years! She has her own YouTube channel “Betsy’s Positive Videos” with over 5,000 followers! Which was her idea during the first lockdown to cheer people up and keep them positive 🥰

Or follow her on Instagram “Be More Betsy”.

The Wonderful Tanner family, who live in Chorleywood, have kindly “adopted” Betsy as their local charity to raise funds for. They hold a fun festival in their garden each summer, with live music, refreshments and fun! This years festival will be held on Saturday 22nd June. We are looking for raffle and auction prizes from local businesses. If anyone can help please contact Yesenia Tanner at: yeseniatanner@gmail.com
